The Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours) at CQUniversity equips you with practical skills, enabling you to use specific activities to help patients participate in life roles.

The course is designed to ensure you are equipped with an underpinning knowledge in professional practice, human body systems, psychology and contemporary healthcare.

Your education and training will include occupational therapy courses covering a wide range of practice contexts, and you will develop highly-desired skills in areas such as assessment, service development, evaluation and critical thinking, enabling you to graduate work-ready.

The course has a strong focus on practical learning experiences and you will benefit from industry placements across a range of practice areas, including the purpose-built Allied Health Clinic at CQUniversity Rockhampton.

Fully accredited by the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia the Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours) equips you with the knowledge to excel in professional practice, human body systems, psychology and contemporary healthcare. You will also build on your practical skills in assessment, service development, evaluation and critical thinking.

On successful completion, you will be eligible to apply for national registration to practise as an Occupational Therapist and work in a variety of practice settings, including aged care, disability, occupational health and rehabilitation, pediatrics and mental health.

Real-world Opportunities

The Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours) involves extensive professional practice experiences where you will gain practical and relevant experience.

During your second year, you will undertake up to 10 days of fieldwork visits. Following this, you will complete two 12-week placements, one in your third year, and another in your fourth year of studies. In your final term, you will complete a 150-hour community placement. Overall you will complete a minimum of 1000 hours of fieldwork education.

While every endeavour is made for your professional practice experiences to be close to home, you may be required to travel to another location to complete your professional practice and this will be at your own expense.

Professional Occupational Therapy Practice 1	OCCT13008	Students are required to complete a minimum of 1000 hours of professional practice. Some of this is integrated within earlier units of the CB84 course, and this unit is the first of two full-time WIL blocks. The new 18-credit point unit replacing this unit will contain the same amount of WIL hours.
Professional Occupational Therapy Practice 2	OCCT14006	Students are required to complete a minimum of 1000 hours of professional practice. Some of this is integrated within earlier units of the CB84 course, and this unit is the second of two full-time WIL blocks. The new 18-credit point unit replacing this unit will contain the same amount of WIL hours.

Students who select to study some units via distance education may be required to attend compulsory residential schools.

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement

The COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory to be eligible to attend a WIL placement for this course. Students will be required to provide evidence of having completed a COVID-19 vaccination schedule by the closing date prior to a WIL placement. The vaccine received must be a vaccine approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) of Australia.

English (Units 3 & 4, C) or equivalent; one of Biology, Chemistry or Physics (Units 3 & 4, C) or equivalent

English Language Proficiency Requirements

If you were not born in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa or United States of America, you are required to meet the English Language Proficiency requirements set by the University.

Applicants are required to provide evidence of completion within the last 5 years of:

• A secondary qualification (Year 11 and 12, or equivalent), or
• Bachelor level qualification study for a period of at least 2 years fulltime with a minimum overall GPA of 4.0

completed within Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, South Africa, Ireland or United states of America, which will meet the English proficiency.

If you do not satisfy any of the above you will need to undertake an English language proficiency test and achieve the following scores:

• An International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic) overall band score of at least 7.0 with a minimum 7.0 in each subset; or
• An Occupational English Test with Grades A or B only in each of the four components.

English test results remain valid for no more than two years between final examination date and the date of commencement of study, and must appear on a single result certificate.
